Shopping online doesn't always tell the full story. As the designer behind the Luella Play Wall, I want you to know what you're bringing into your home—what it's made from, how it has been tested, and what it's designed to do.
Our goal isn't simply to make a sale. We want to create something your family can genuinely enjoy for years.
What Is the Play Wall Made From?
The Play Wall is designed as a thin, flexible magnetic play surface rather than a thick, heavy magnetic board.
It combines three main functional layers:
PP&PVC Play Surface
A smooth, reusable surface for drawing and everyday play. It can be used with our dust-free chalk crayons, water-based markers, and compatible magnetic toys.
Flexible Steel & Strontium Ferrite Magnetic Layer
We use strontium ferrite in our magnetic material, selected to meet applicable environmental requirements while providing the magnetic performance needed for everyday play.
This is combined with a thin, flexible steel construction, allowing the Play Wall to remain lightweight and slim enough to sit flat against your wall rather than becoming a thick, heavy magnetic board.
Adhesive Backing
Allows the Play Wall to be installed directly onto suitable smooth surfaces without drilling or mounting a heavy board.
Every material has been chosen to balance function, practicality, appearance and responsible material choices.
Safety Tested for Children's Spaces
Because the Play Wall is designed for children's spaces, safety is an important part of our product development.
Our Play Walls have undergone independent laboratory testing for applicable children's product safety requirements in the United States, Australia and Europe.
This includes applicable requirements under:

We believe safety claims should be supported by testing—not simply added to a product page because they sound reassuring.

Lightweight by Design
The Ultra-Mag Play Wall is significantly stronger than our original Play Wall and was developed specifically to give children more possibilities for magnetic play.
Instead of making it into a thick, heavy steel board, we intentionally kept the flexible steel construction.
We wanted a Play Wall that could cover a large area while remaining lightweight, slim, easier to install and practical for real family homes.
This also means there are natural limits to how much weight a flexible magnetic surface can support.
Magnetic strength can vary depending on the weight, size, shape and magnet strength of the toy being used.
For larger 3D magnetic-tile structures, follow our Magnetic Tile Building Guide and create a strong backing layer before building outward.
For ball runs, we recommend starting from the floor or baseboard and building upward for greater support.
Removable & Repositionable
The adhesive backing is designed to be removable and repositionable—but it's not magic.
Every time the Play Wall is removed, small amounts of dust, paint or other particles can transfer onto the adhesive and gradually reduce its effectiveness.
We recommend keeping repositioning to a minimum and, whenever possible, no more than approximately 10 times.
Smooth surfaces such as glass and suitable tiles generally allow easier removal. Painted walls can vary depending on the type, texture, age and condition of the paint.
For the best long-term result, choose your installation location carefully before applying your Play Wall.
How Long Will It Last?
There's no single number we can honestly promise because lifespan depends on how it's used, where it's installed and how well it's cared for.
What we can share is our own experience:
We've had a Play Wall in our own home for more than three years, and it is still working beautifully.
Keep the surface clean, avoid unnecessary repositioning, and clean marker or chalk regularly rather than leaving drawings on the surface for extended periods.
With proper care, your Play Wall can stay part of your child's space for years.
