Our Story
No, I’m not a mom, as you might expect. But I was lucky enough to be the child of two wonderful parents.
Some of my favourite memories are tiny ones: folding paper planes, learning the names of clouds, silly games my parents made up on ordinary afternoons.
I had mild dyslexia, so I learned to read late, and maths only made sense when I could count stones with my own hands. But give me a picture and I understood it straight away. And I had so much energy.
My parents saw all of this. Instead of worrying about what I couldn’t do yet, they chose a Montessori school where I could grow through what I was good at. I never once felt behind or less than anyone else, and honestly, I think that changed everything.
We also didn’t have screens at home until I was fourteen. Instead, my parents gave my brother and me their time: games, outings, and endless answers to our endless questions.
Today, we’re still incredibly close to our parents. I grew up feeling secure and content, without ever feeling the need to compete with anyone or chase the latest trend. When I look back, it feels like I never really grew out of my childhood. And I’m happy about that.
That’s where Luella Play comes from. After design school, I wanted to make toys that are beautiful enough to love having at home, and simple enough to pull you in to play together. Draw, build, rock, wonder, side by side.
Now, I’m not saying our toys are the best or the only way to get there. They’re not. What really matters is the time you spend together. We just hope we can be a small part of your family’s story, and help create a few cozy moments along the way.
With love,
Napa, founder of Luella Play
